Why Install WordPress 3.5

Finally most awaited wordPress 3.5 version is released today, with a bonus of Twenty Twelve Theme inbuilt the package. This is the second major release for 2012 (last one being WordPress 3.4 on June 13, 2012). The Major upgrades are basically in Dashboard UI, Media amendments and Front end theme change. Let’s not wasting time and getting on the Features comparison briefly (i.e. comparison between old version WP 3.4 and WP 3.5 ).

Links/Blog roll is Hidden for new installation


For old users who are using the link manager currently, then blogroll will stay as is. However, for users who have a fresh install of WordPress 3.5 or do not use the link manager, it will be hidden by default. They have to download manually link manager plugin to include it. This change is done for making the core of wordpress light.

WordPress included some new points to improve the welcome screen. The logic is to make all the basic operations highlight which user may need.

Favorites feature added in plugin installation

Finally a very useful change is added in WordPress 3.5. Now You can see favorites tab while installing a new plugin. This will help the developers who use a number of same plugins while using them on different sites. This is a very useful and time saving feature.

Media Amendments

There is a major change in WordPress Media uploader. The improvement in user interface will help a lot to WordPress beginners and average users, also its looking pretty good. WordPress worked on upload/insert text and make it a button as it looks good.

Other then this change there is some more changes in uploader page, where the whole layout is changed and its very user-friendly to work with it.

A Bonus for Frontend (Twenty Twelve Theme)

WordPress Team has finally decided to provide Twenty Twelve Theme inside WordPress 3.5 version package. This theme is fully responsive in design.

Other Features

There are many other amendments and bug fixes. Some of the following are listed below:

  • The Static Front Page UI under Settings » Reading has been improved.
  •  “HTML” of editor tab has renamed to “Text”
  • Bug fix: Child categories has been prevented from being visually promoted to the top level after quick edit.
  • Retina display ready i.e. HiDPI in dashboard.
  • For Live Theme Demo New Color Picker is added.
  • keyboard navigation Improved and Added screen reader support.
  • XML-RPC has been by default enabled.
  • Updation of External Libraries – SimplePie 1.3. TinyMCE 3.5.6. jQuery 1.8.2. jQuery UI 1.9 (even its not released yet). Addition of Underscore 1.3.3 and Backbone 0.9.2.
  • Now WP Query can receive posts in the order specified by post__in.
